The 30th Anniversary of the Alzheimer’s
Association Rita Hayworth Galawas held on Tuesday, October
22, 2013 at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, New York, and raised
nearly $1.7million for Alzheimer’s care, support and
research. Alzheimer’s disease remains the sixth leading
cause of death in the United States and
more than 5 million Americans
are currently living with the disease. Through the
continued support of generous donors, the Alzheimer's
Association strives for a world without Alzheimer’s, by
funding research that may lead to early detection of
Alzheimer’s and therapies that will one day slow or stop the
progression of this fatal disease, all while providing
individuals and families impacted with care and support
resources.
Since the inaugural Rita Hayworth Gala in New York three
decades ago, the New York and Chicago events have raised
more than $61million to support the Alzheimer’s Association
critical care and research programs.Princess YasminAga Khan
established the Gala as a tribute to her mother, Rita
Hayworth, who lived with Alzheimer’s disease for many years
before the disease took her life in 1987.
She has remained an active leader, as General Chair of the
Rita Hayworth Galas, inspiring generous financial supporters
in the fight to end Alzheimer’s. This year, Princess Yasmin
Aga Khan, Gala Chair Nicole Sexton, and the Alzheimer’s
Association honored Rolex with the Rita Hayworth Award, for
their significant commitment to the cause, along with John
C. Lechleiter, Ph.D., Chairman, President& CEO of Eli Lilly
and Company with the Champion Award, which recognizes
individuals for their support and dedication in the fight
against Alzheimer’s.
