My darling son, Hudson, turns 7 on
Halloween....however we decided to celebrate his special
Birthday Occasion on the 26th this year, this past Saturday.
What a Day!!! We had so much fun..most everyone arrived in
costume and the weather was completely perfect. Our family
loves Halloween and each year we can't wait to see what the
other is going to be.
My husband Jon, went as a priest, and I followed
his lead and went as a nun.

My precious daughter Hyacinth went as a little cow girl...
she was to adorable,
Hyacinth Cornelia Heinemann jumping in the bouncer.
and Hudson went as a Police Officer...he immediately knew what he wanted
to be!

This year I had a marble cake with a vanilla
butter cream icing made. It was completely divine, so moist
and buttery.
I love cakes and started thinking about the origin of
Birthday Cake.

It seems the first birthday cake was believed
to have been made in Germany in the Middle Ages. The Germans
used the cakes to celebrate the birthdays of young children
and called the celebration Kinderfest. It was also here that
cakes began to be layered and alternate ingredients were
used to make the cake sweeter.

My favorite bakery is Jean Millet, 103 rue
Saint-Dominique in Paris. It is a very retro looking bakery
in the
7th arrondissement...so delicious! The pastry chef is
Denis Ruffel and he makes the most heavenly eclairs, and
apricot beignets....but back to my marble, buttercream sheet
cake! I had two made this year, the exact same,
so there was plenty.
Susan & Adam
A special thank you to our chef, Joel Trocino,
who takes such good care of us. He created a wonderful adult
menu that consisted of: Penne Vodka, Chicken Marsala,
Mushroom and Snap Pea risotto balls, Warm goat cheese tarts,
Italian Meatballs and Sausage with Sunday Sauce, and Apple
and Brie beggar purses. It was hearty and delicious and
exactly what we needed being outside.
Hudson asked for Chicken Fingers and French
Fries...with Macaroni and Cheese. I am always amazed how
children never get tired of this...oh, and Pizza. They
always love Pizza!
After the party, 8 boys stayed over for a
slumber party...although very little slumber was involved. I
awoke at 7:00 in the morning to all the boys in the jacuzzi
having a water gun fight...they were laughing and having the
grandest time....I stood on my terrace watching them and
hoping
I would always remember this youthful moment...
the happiness of being a child.

Until next time...xoxo...Michelle-Marie
